Curriculum Map & Learning for Living Curriculum

Wyre Forest School Sixth Form is an extension of our provision that serves to allow our young people to become as independent and 'community ready' as they can be. 

As children become young adults and make the significant step from a Pre-16 to a Post-16 model of education, our curriculum is designed to reflect this change. Therefore there is a shift in emphasis away from a more linear pupil progression model based upon the teaching and generalisation of concepts, towards a model of education which recognises the pupil’s existing skills and provides carefully structured ways of further enabling them to be applied in functional, everyday contexts.

We consider this to be a move from a concept based model of education towards a context based one in which knowledge, at all levels of ability, will be more widely applied to everyday situations. In doing this we are aiming to utilise the final element of the student’s statutory educational entitlement, to prepare them as best we can to become active participants in, and contributors to, society and achieve the highest degree of personal independence.

Our Sixth Form is focused on the functionality of skill development. It is this ability to apply the skills developed throughout our education into 'real life' that will set WFS young adults up for a successful future post school.

Our Sixth Form is currently over subscribed and demand for places is high. As a result of this we have had to implement a clear entry criteria for our Sixth Form. 

This criteria is as follows:

  • Currently on roll at WFS at the end of Year 11
  • Identified at the Year 10 EHCP meeting that an education, employment or training place would not be suitable or appropriate at post-16 level
  • The young person is working at or below P-Step 12

Please note - in very exceptional circumstances, and only by the discretion of the headteacher and Governing Body, pupils can access the Sixth Form in situations where accessing alternative education, training or employment would lead to a significant negative impact on a pupils' health and wellbeing.
