School Council
Wyre Forest School are holding a general election!
On the 12th December, pupils around school will be voting for who they want to represent them in the student council. During the week before, pupils who are running for the student council will have made an election video, campaign posters, and even visited other classes to persuade others. Pupils will be answering one main question… Why should you choose me to represent you in the student council?
The student council election will be held on the same day as the UK general election to fully submerge pupils into the world of voting and politics! Good luck to all those involved!
About the student council –
Wyre Forest School Council meet regularly to discuss pupils’ views, feelings, ideas and suggestions.
The members of the School Council have been elected by their peers across the school, with 6 pupils chosen across middle, upper, and 6th form. Watch this space for lower school representatives at a later date!
During election day, pupils will give some qualities to persuade voters to vote for them. Here are some of the qualities last year’s council said they felt were important to being a school council member:
- Good listening
- Good talking
- Confidence
- Being friendly
- Happy
- Organised
- Being helpful
During a meeting, the children have the opportunity to discuss a range of topics in a safe and supporting environment. Here at Wyre Forest, we ensure our pupils have a voice, and this is one of the many ways we listen. The representatives on the school council understand it is important to express viewpoints confidently whilst listening and responding in a respectful way. A member of staff will support the children in discussions but ensure it is the pupils voice that is heard. Each meeting has minutes noted and passed on to the Senior leadership team.
The School Council have previously been involved in a number of projects, including surveying opinions of their peers, support play on both the Primary and Secondary playground, as well as helping to organise some school community events.
