Some of the curriculum areas in the WFSPS have been used to inform the pathway 1 curriculum map. The curriculum map ensures Pathway 1 has a broad and balanced non-subject specific curriculum content which supports pupils to achieve the highest level of independence possible in preparation for life beyond WFS. The four-year rolling programme incorporates a thematic approach. 

Teachers use the curriculum map to ensure pupils receive a broad and balanced curriculum. However, teachers create individualised targets and have the autonomy to follow pupil’s interests which differ from the learning areas and themes set out in the curriculum map. This is because it is essential pupils are engaged for them to develop new skills, concepts, and knowledge.
